Karol Szechnicki is an Oslo-based selector whose sets explore the deeper edges of electronic music. Known for a flexible and intuitive approach, he focuses on shaping selections that respond to the time, space and energy of the room rather than adhering to a single sound. As Catnip, drawing from the lineage of sound system culture, his sets move through dubstep, dub techno, roots-driven bass music and left-field club sounds, always prioritizing weight, space and groove over hype. Recently he has been expanding into more atmospheric territory, working on AV-focused ambient listening spaces within Oslo’s underground.
Under the alias Tåkē, he explores hypnotic, mental techno built on psychedelic repetition, subtle modulation and spacious sound design. While heavier in tone, the approach remains similar: patient, immersive sets for listeners drawn to depth and introspection.
Beyond DJing, Karol experiments with visual projection, creating immersive environments where sound and image meet. His involvement in the scene extends beyond the booth: he is a co-founder of Dub Bakery, a co founder of upcoming Rytmesans, stage manager at Under the Rug, and a contributor to projects such as Tað Club, Frifelt, and Monument.
